History of Port Tobacco and our Restaurant Port Tobacco, originally the Indian settlement Potopaco, was the original county government seat and second largest seaport in Maryland. During the Civil War, Port Tobacco was home to Confederate sympathizers
and an important link in the Confederate underground because of
its location near the Potomac River. Port Tobacco will now be a deep water marina!
